Starting again
I am loving colour again! After weeks of the never ending grey knitting it is almost over. Just blocking to be done and hope that the recipient is the teensiest bit grateful, which I’m sure he will be. (He’d better be at any rate!)
This week though I’ve had to turn my hands to a couple of more colourful projects. Female recipients don’t seem to like old school sock grey as much!
I have enjoyed playing with embroidery thread and felt. It’s quite therapeutic in it’s way. Sitting on the sofa in the evening and stitching at small little baby projects. I also like the fact that there is no real pattern to it. You are free to go your own way and see where the colours take you. My stitches are a bit limited, blanket stitch, satin stitch the basics, but I love how they take on a different sort of texture depending on the colour that you do them in. It’s far more satisfying then the cross stitch pictures that I used to do when I was younger.
I went to buy the thread at the weekend in the little yarn shop staffed by the most elderly miseries in the world. I stood there spinning the carousel trying to pick colours and was asked if I didn’t perhaps have a chart or a list to work from. Apparently if I deviated from the colours laid down in stone then I would run into trouble. She didn’t seem to understand that I was wanting to just do some pretty freehand work.
The above is meant to be a little cake for a friend’s birthday coming up. (I do so hope it is recognisable as such!) She does have a proper present that can’t be wrapped up and the little cake is sort of symbolic of that.
It’s meant to be chocolate cake with either a strawberry or raspberry filling. Or maybe it’s just pink vanilla butter cream. I haven’t quite decided yet!
And these little beauties. Well, they are going on a bit of a journey to somewhere a bit warmer!

What a beautiful cake. Such great work Gemma. Your friend will love it sooooooo much!
xx
I love the little cake! It’s too precious!
Hmm, I wonder if ??!!
Your friend will be delighted with both her cakes!
Your projects are so lovely and the color is beautiful.
Cut cake. I’m sure it will be received with a smile.
Love the cakes. Unfortunately they’re the only style I’ll be having for a few months til I shift some weight! *sigh*
The blue is so vibrant–it makes me want to be outside.
