Blankie and me

July 15, 2007

Fold_use

To end the week of blogging I present Blankie!

Big

Blankie is made from a pattern that BellaDia posted ages ago! I finished it a few weeks ago and it has been in use ever since. It’s double bed sized and slightly wider than normal as I am a blanket hog and G normally ends up with nothing! I love it and I think G does too, he says it is like being wrapped in a big Gemma cuddle.

G

It’s perfect for Summer when I don’t want to have the duvet on and I am so terribly proud it is silly. I sit some evenings and just stroke it. It’s made up of mainly acrylic yarn as there is no way that I could have afforded to make it out of anything else I shudder to think of how much it has cost me as it is! It is the biggest project I have ever attempted and I can’t believe that I actually saw it through to the bitter end.

Much like my week of blogging which is now over! The pressure of trying to think of something to post everyday was quite heavy on my shoulders. I have come to the conclusion that I actually live a pretty dull life. Which is actually how I like it! However, it doesn’t make for terribly interesting blogging material, especially when I am so slow at things that I have no progress on projects to show. (At the moment I am desperately trying to finish up socks, I had plenty of them waiting for mates that I never even started!) I hope that I haven’t bored anyone with my nonsensical wittering.

G pointed out the other day that there isn’t a single picture of me here at Generally Gemma land! He’s right, I hate having my picture taken which is why I try to be the one that is always behind the camera. I always come out in pictures with far too many chins and looking like some sort of a special kind of species that Darwin would have encouraged to die out. That coupled with a terribly low self esteem, bad skin and more padding than I like to think about isn’t a good combination. So I avoid cameras like the plague. Yesterday though G convinced me to step in front of the camera. I don’t like to think what our neighbours must have thought about our impromptu photo shoot, I think they are all of the opinion that I’m nuts anyway!

So, after many pictures and quite some time, we came up with this,

Me2

Arrrggghhh! How long do you think I can last before I take it down in a fit of humiliation!

Thanks for sticking with me this week folks and now I am back into the swing of it I promise to be here far more, although it most certainly won’t be every day!

Congrats on finishing the blankie. It really is fantastic! What an achievement! Glad to see you’re getting all sorts of use out of it. I know what you mean about struggling with the blog. I haven’t posted on mine since May which is because I’m (a) quite busy and (b) quite boring. But I’m going to take inspiration from you and fire up the blog again – or perhaps reincarnate it as a new blog. I love to read your blog, so please keep it up. I promise you, you’re not boring :) The piccie of you is lovely btw. I’ll pop back soon, Louise xoxo

Wow, to crochet an entire bed sized blankie! Well done! I’m completely with you when it comes to being photographed – I shy away from the camera as much as possible too, and there wont be any pictures of me on my blog for a long time yet, if ever… You on the other hand, have nothing to be ashamed of – lovely picture of a lovely girl! I enjoy reading your blog and don’t find you in the least bit boring, but it is hard to come up with something to write about every day! I suppose I live a boring life too ;-)))). (That’s a wink and a smile with many double chins!)

Lovely picture Gemma. I don’t know why you’re shy of stepping in front of the camera. I know where you’re coming from though as I don’t think I have any pictures of me on my blog and generally hate myself in photos. It is really lovely to see what other bloggers look like as I think we all must have images in our head of what we all look like and it’s interesting to see if they’re the right image. Somehow I imagined you with fair hair.
Well done with finishing the blanket. It’s amazing! I so wish I could crochet, but even if I could I’m not sure I could finish something that size. I’d get bored of it way too quickly.
I really know how you feel about thinking of things to write on the blog. I marvel at the people that come up with something interesting and beautiful every day. I really don’t know how they do it. But I love reading your blog so please don’t give up. I think it’s always easy to judge ourselves as being boring but sometimes the things we find dull are facinating to other people. I’m basically very nosey so am happy to read most things people have to write. I just find it facinating to hear about other peoples lives. I can definitely recommend taking a proper little break though which is what I’ve done during July. Definitely good for re focussing.
Gosh, this is turning into the longest comment ever. I’ll shut up now! x

    Hello Gemma
Everything I was thinking was written by Nonnie, but better. I enjoy reading your blog and looking at your photos very much, and I don’t think your life is boring at all. I also loathe having my photograph taken, but it’s lovely to see you and I think that you’re wrong – in fact you’re very pretty. x

And the thing that I love most about you is how damn funny you are. You are a wonderful writer and have me howling. If you ever stop I’ll have to come and find you!!!!

You are so young, Gemma! Never, never be afraid of the camera. I can relate to most things you have written about, being well-padded (oh the shame!)not knowing what to blog about, spots (yes, at 43!)
Seriously, the blanket is wonderful – what an achievement! Enjoy..

You are pretty and precious and don’t you *dare* take this photo down!!!
I totally understand how it is, to never like one’s photos. How long did it take me to put one up, of me? Longggggggggggggggggggggggg! :-) But look, it’s still up! -giggles-
And I’m intrigued by your web cam. I have one but hardly use it. It must be nice to have someone, with whom you can share a web cam view, all the time. Or at least, it sounds like you do this with…{is it M?}.
And *shussshhhhh,* don’t *tell,* that I commented. -giggles- ‘Cause I’m officially NOT back in ‘My Pretty Blog Land’ yet.
