Brum

November 16, 2007

It is simply amazing how a week’s illness can take it out of you. I’ve been so tired since I was ill that I feel as though I haven’t ever really caught up. Then work was a bit of a nightmare with trying to catch up there and cover illness and holiday leave so I couldn’t really pop in from there either. THEN my darling M popped over to England for a few days so I’ve spent the last few days and weekend with her. Which while it is always simply divine to see her it can be somewhat exhausting! Rushing here there and everywhere with her and Granny.

It is usually far more hectic though as both Granny and I are normally trying to get a big supermarket shop in because we didn’t have cars. However now,

FREEDOM!!!

It is utterly indescribable how much of a difference owning a car has made to G’s and my lives.

An excursion to the shops doesn’t take a whole Saturday, we can be there and back within an hour and a half if we wish, when before it could possibly take that long just on transport if the trains/buses were having a bad day. Discovering that cable connectors are needed in the middle of a big living room change around isn’t a catastrophe as you can go to Homebase and be back within half an hour. Something which before would have meant a crying fit and putting the change around back to the next weekend. Even an Ikea trip can be completed without it taking a day and a knackering hefting back to the house of goodies.

So Brum, (as he is called, because I have to name things) we are forever grateful for your wonderful addition to our little family. Next weekend he will chugging us up to Wales to visit G’s Mum. Now that will indeed be an awfully great adventure!

The joys of motoring. Life in England in the 21st century is so much easier when you have your own car, even if petrol costs a fortune and we spend half our journey time sitting in traffic. So Gemma I think it’s time you took the plunge and started driving, believe me if I passed a test anyone can.

I have always had a car or the use of one and I can’t imagine grocery shopping on a bus. We are a car based neighborhood and there are not too many convenient busses. How wonderful for you to have the freedom you have now. I am grateful for my car every day, especially the rainy ones, that I don’t have to walk to the train station to get to work. Glad you feel better!

Brum is such a good name, for a very cute car.
I understand. I really do. We were carless for 6 months or so a few years ago and it was a challenge. I remember the night we got a new car. We drove around after working just loving that we could go anywhere that night!
