Urge

June 17, 2008

The last few weeks I felt an urge come upon me. An urge not felt since the great Blankie urge of last year! Round about the same time that the ripple and striped blankets were doing the rounds a few Granny square blankets seemed to keep popping up. But of course I was submerged with Blankie and could think no further than the next stripe of the biggest project I had ever undertaken. But slowly, slowly I started thinking about a new blanket. A sofa blanket that wasn’t as big and could be done in little pieces over the Summer when it was warm and I didn’t really want a whole pile of fabric or yarn draped all over me.

So I emailed the lovely  Lynn and asked if she would share her pattern as I loved hers and I wasn’t quite getting the hang of how the whole thing went together. I had a brain block that meant the blocks were coming out with far too many corners. But Lynn put me on the right track and two weeks in I reckon I am about a third of the way through. And I am loving it!

So we shall see if this actually all comes together of if my newly discovered love of crochet and cosmopolitans is going to prove a disastrous combination!

You are so creative. I love the yarn colours you have used and hope you show us the finished blankie. Oh, and could you pour me one of those cocktails, please?

Really pretty colours, Gemma. And here I am doing a king size ripple in June.

I’ve got a granny square blanket going on myself, and it’s so great to pick up and put down in front of the telly. Haven’t tried it with cosmopolitans though…

They are adorable! Such pretty colours, it’ll be a really special blanket. And I love that the cocktail co-ordinates with the squares!

I love crochet too. I think I will not make any wool crochet now because the weather here is starting to be hot. But you are quite clever starting it now, this way, when Autumn comes, you will have a nice and warm blanket.
So, looking at your nice idea, maybe I will star one too.

I think if there’s any craft you can mix with a cosmopolitan it’s definitely crochet.
I love the colours together – the blue edge on each will really draw them all together fabulously.

Lovely squares. I haven’t made granny squares in years. Maybe that’s what I’ll do with all my leftover sock yarn. I enjoy crochet. I learned it way before knitting. And you’re right. The squares are nice, small, portable projects for summer.

Oh I so wish I could crochet! One of these days I WILL learn. Love the combination of colours you’re using. Also very much liking the look of the Cosmopolitan! I think I should NOT learn how to make those!
