Hu in a what now?!

Yes, I have reached that sad blogging stage where I blog about my lunch! However, this is not just any lunch this is a lunch that revolves around home grown and homemade produce as the picture above illustrates. It may not be the prettiest thing alive but it is my first ever attempt at homemade humous, humus, hummus. (How on earth do you spell it anyway? There seems to be some sort of confusion.)

G pointed out that it looked like something you would find on the pavement in town early on a Sunday morning. <shudder> Notice he didn’t say on a Saturday night, we don’t go out on Saturday nights anymore. It’s so loud and busy and you can’t ever find a seat. We are 80 year olds did I mention that!

Also note the strange perfect triangular space in the centre of my cucumber. I didn’t cut that. It came like it. What on earth causes that!?!? Alan Titchmarsh and Sarah Raven have both been most unhelpful on the subject!

I’m very impressed, especially as my cucumber plant is still only 10″ tall and is giving no signs of flowers let alone fruit.
looks like a lovely lunch, homemade buns?

But did the hummus taste OK? Funnily enough, I made some last week and it looked and tasted nothing like the stuff they sell in Sainsbury’s! I’m not an expert on growing cucumbers but am fairly reliably informed that hollow centres (and the triangular centres on yours do look lovely!) could be caused by not enough fertiliser, lack of water or build up of gas inside the cucumber. Take your pick! And maybe take cover!

    what a healthy yummy lunch!
I have made hummus before, but I added way too much garlic… seriously, you had to step away from it… the fumes of the garlic were so potent!

And I thought the triangle was a specially trimmed Zakka touch. Looks yum!

Hmm, the cucumber has gas, there is so much I can say on this matter but don’t like to offend by getting too personal !!!!!!!!!!!

I’m SO glad that there are people out there who also avoid going out on Saturday nights! Just when I thought that there was something wrong with me! By the way your lunch looks really yummy!

I wish my packed lunches looked that cute! Love home made houmous. Haven’t made it for ages. I have to say my first thought when I saw that picture was ‘why has Gemma cut a little triangle in her cucumber?’ I reckon if Alan and Sarah don’t know the answer to it then I don’t know who will.

It looks like a very little lunch, yummy but little, more of a snack really, my goodness Gemma are you eating enough?

Hope you had a nice few days of baking this weekend, my little domestic goddess! Perhaps you need to learn a thing or two about clearing up the mess afterwards to earn your halo fully….G
