Squirreling

October 4, 2009

Yesterday I mentioned the pesky squirrels that eat all my holly berries. But in reality I don't find them terribly pesky. After years of living in Spain and never seeing them the novelty of having them in my garden has never quite worn off. The plethora of sweet chestnuts spread like a carpet at the moment means there are plenty of opportunities for squirrel watching at the moment and nothing is quite so dear to me as watching them scamper, pick and choose and bury them before my eyes. They are remarkably immune to humans it seems and are quite happy to just go about their business, to the point where at times it almost felt as though this little fellow was posing for me!

Hunting for the perfect chestnut

Ohhh that one over there! It's perfect!

4 Ahhhh yes that's the one! Now where to put it so no one finds it!

2 Yep this looks like a good spot!

Now to bury it deep so no one can get at it!

And now to nonchalantly walk away so no one guesses it here! I just hope that strange lady with the camera doesn't tell anyone!

We have a lot of squirrels in our yard. They’re hard to photograph since they’re so shy. I love to watch them run around but my husband calls them ‘rats with big tails’.

I love squirrels too! I know most people probably think of them as a menace, but we don’t have them here, so I just think they are cute!

I’d be out there fighting with the squirrel for my share of the sweet chestnuts! Do you like them?
