History

Many years ago now when I was teenager I got out of bed at the awful hour of six am to be on a beach at 7am where a British morning show were filming segments from Spain. Their special guests that day were to be a band I'd heard of and vaguely liked a band called Boyzone.

A friend of mine and I were picked to go and meet the Boyz and have a chat. She was already a massive Take That fan but as I have previously explained the boy band phenomena never really hit me until I meet these guys.

This morning my Brother woke me up with a text that Stephen Gately was dead. I was always more of a Ronan girl myself but that didn't stop me having a little weep and a moment. He was only 33 a sad fact in itself. But for me this is the first time death had hit one of my teenage idols, a sign I suppose that I really am getting old.

The song above isn't one of their best but it is one of my favorites because it is the one they performed on that beach all those years ago. I'm just so glad I had the opportunity to see them again last year. Stephen, where ever you are now thank-you from the bottom of my heart. If you hadn't been around Boyzone wouldn't have been the Boyz they are/were and a huge part of my life would have been missing.

Ah.. how sad, so young. We also met Mr Motivator and Anthea Turner but I don’t think you noticed them Gemma. Only had eyes for your Boyz.

i thought of you yesterday when I heard the news. I was a bit outside the demographic for boy bands but they had some lovely songs and he was very young.

Oh gosh, I watched the video before I read the post, so sad! Then I looked up Stephen and he was totally the one in the video that cracked me up the most. He was seriously into his dancing, man he was busting those moves! Poor guy, RIP. I think that’s how I would feel if I heard one of the New Kids on the Block would pass on.
On a lighter note…that video made my morning. That choreography, oh my goodness, I’m going to be doing that little kick, step slide thing all day, HAHA!

I heard the same thing this morning and I was shocked. To be so young, and for this to happen. So sad.
