Crisp and Smooshy

October 18, 2009

Today has been one of those glorious Autumn days. Brilliant sunshine, no wind, a cold crisp air that bites at your nose and your fingers. A leisurely lunch with a very dear friend was had. My Other Mummy as I call her. I met her at my work and up until I was made redundant the most that we hadn't seen each other for was a couple of weeks. I was made redundant at the beginning of July and I've seen her once since then, and that was a brief hello goodbye when I stopped into the office to pick some things up.

Three and a half months is a long time when you've been used to seeing each other most days for eight years. I've been so reclusive since July. Almost ashamed of seeing people especially seeing as I haven't found another job. Which is silly I know, I kept thinking that I will see her when I have something and we can go out and celebrate and then time drags on and on and before you know it months have passed and you haven't even touched base. I'm vowing never to let that amount of time go by before I see her again.

For this evening in honor of the Autumnal feel in the air we have soup for dinner. Butternut squash soup which is a main stay in the G&G household when the cold weather hits. Butternut squash, onion, stock, nutmeg, salt and pepper all blended up together to make the most comforting smoosh that I think I ever make. So good that the Mother in Law has asked that I tell her how to make it!!! Little does she know how easy it is!

I’ve got an Other Mummy too, I even call her Mummy Mor, mainly because it’s a name that stuck from when I was a kid and couldn’t say Maureen.
Love the colours of those leaves.

I have an Other Mom, she’s my aunt. She’s always been there when my own mother wasn’t. I wouldn’t trade her for the world.
I love autumn days like that. We’ve had so much rain this year that we haven’t had many days like that.

I love the sound of the soup. I like a Bill Granger recipe using red Thai curry paste and butternut squash, very warming on a cold day.
